Journalist appeals for help
A German soldier on Jersey
Jersey was occupied for almost five years
An award-winning journalist is appealing for people in Jersey to help with his research on the occupation.

Don Hale is in the island on Sunday and hopes to collate enough information to write a series of articles.

Mr Hale has been at the centre of worldwide media attention since winning his fight to free Stephen Downing from prison after serving 27 years for a crime he did not commit.

Last year he was awarded the OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
I'm trying to find information and reaction from locals

Don Hale

He is now researching the occupation of the Channel Islands and hopes islanders can help.

"There were a number of commando raids from the Germans where they were desperate to get food and supplies," said Mr Hale.

"They raided Granveaux, they went to Cherbourg and they went to a number of other ports.

"I'm trying to find some information from that, and reaction from the locals."

Mr Hale is especially interested in hearing from anyone who is willing to talk about the last 12 months of the occupation.

Anyone with information can visit Mr Hale at the Pomme D'Or hotel or ring him on 0778 7364961.
