International paedophile ring broken up
British police say they've broken up a sophisticated paedophile ring on the Internet in a joint operation resulting in the arrest of one-hundred-and-seven men in twelve countries. Seven British men pleaded guilty on Wednesday to being part of the ring, known as the Wonderland Club; they'll be sentenced next month. An eighth man committed suicide after being charged. All one-hundred-and seven suspects were arrested two years ago in Britain, other European countries, the United States and Australia; police have since recovered nearly three-quarters of a million pictures of sexually abused children -- one of them a three-month-old baby. To join the club, each potential member had to have at least ten-thousand pictures of pre-teen children and agree to exchange them with other members. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
