Six arrested for HK gambling

Police in Hong Kong have arrested six men who are suspected of taking more than $2.6m in illegal bets on the World Cup.

The arrests were part of a police operation against illegal gambling during the tournament.

The only authorised betting in Hong Kong is on horse racing and lotteries.

The authorities there strengthened the anti-gambling legislation on Friday, the competition's opening day, by outlawing telephone and internet betting with overseas bookmakers.
