Carers' firewalk for tsunami aid
Burning coals
The care workers will walk 25ft over 650C coals
Care workers in Newport are planning to walk over a hot bed of coals in Newport to raise money for the tsunami appeal.

Around 150 Hallmark Healthcare staff - 60 from Wales - will attempt the firewalk on the eve of Saturday's tsunami relief concert in Cardiff.

The group will walk 25ft over coals at a temperature of more than 650C.

Carer Emma Jones, 25, one of the firewalkers, said: "It was always our intention to raise money for charity. I'm not scared about it at all."

The challenge is being held as part of a team-building day at a hotel in Newport.

It's a challenge - I'll be hyper

Workers from all over the UK, including Norfolk, Cheshire and Birmingham, will learn techniques for controlling their emotions from life coach Andy Harrington.

He claims if a person changes their mindset, they can walk over the coals without injury.

Ms Jones, who works for Bryn Celyn care home in Maesteg, south Wales, said: "It's a new experience for us all. It's a challenge - I'll be hyper.

"Some of my colleagues are completely the opposite - they're really nervous.

"It was always our intention to raise money for charity.

"We've chosen the tsunami appeal because we think it's something we should do."
