Police looking for a missing man think he may have jumped into a river to retrieve an empty canoe.
Divers began searching for Tom Czachur, 22, of Shotton, Deeside, on Saturday afternoon on the River Dee at Llangollen, Denbighshire.
North Wales Police said one of his three friends raised the alarm after he was seen jumping into the water.
His family called him "a fun-loving young man who lives life to the full".
The family statement said: "He holds strong family values. His determination in life has led to a successful career, he is a very popular young man with an army of friends, his family eagerly await the return of their beloved Thomas."
Police said his family were "fully aware" of the situation and were being updated on the search.
Police do not believe he is a canoeist, but that he may have been trying to stop someone else's craft floating away.
He got into difficulty near the Chainbridge Hotel at about 1720 BST on Saturday.
A search was launched involving a police helicopter and an underwater unit.
Police looked on both the land and in the river until early on Sunday, and began again at 0630 BST.
