Trading standards were targeting under age drink sales
A couple have been fined £400 for selling alcohol to a 15-year-old at their Gwynedd off-licence.

David and Rosalind Fuller, of Nanhoron Stores, Nefyn, were targeted on suspicion of selling alcohol to under-age customers.

The defendants admitted the charges but claimed the offences occurred when they were under stress and unwell.

They were also ordered by Pwllheli magistrates to pay £70 costs.

Joint charges were brought by Gwynedd council relating to sales of alcohol on 23 July and 27 October last year.

The trading standards department had sent a 15-year-old boy to the off-licence to buy a four-can pack of beer. On both occasions the boy was not challenged on his age.

The court heard that the operation was set up after complaints of off-licences selling alcohol to under-age drinkers.

Court chairman Katherine Ellis said: "We consider this to be a very serious offence, especially in the light of the problem of under-age drinking generally."

She added: "If this happens again your licence may be forfeited."
