They were caught with a large amount of alcohol and a small quantity of cannabis was also recovered.

Before the police operation on Friday evening a number of incidents had occurred on the school grounds.

A number of beer bottles have been smashed on the playing field preventing youngsters from going outside.

No arrests have been made but the names and addresses of the children have been recorded.

Many of the youngsters had come from a number of villages surrounding Pentre Broughton.

Persistent offenders

Pc Stuart Griffiths said the investigation involved officers from Coedpoeth and Gresford police stations.

"The purpose of the operation was to identify the youths involved and to raise their awareness of the problems they are causing in the Pentre Broughton area.

"We wish to ensure that this primary school is a safe environment for the local children.

"I will continue to pay close attention to this area in order to deter persistent offenders," he said.

Letters have been sent home to the children's parents to make them aware of the situation.
