Mrs Long, who was 39, died in the early hours of Saturday morning after a night out in Cardiff city centre.

Cardiff magistrates heard that the day before the accident was the defendant's 22nd birthday.

Mrs Long, of Roath, Cardiff, suffered fatal head injuries when was crushed between Mr Razaq's Citroen AX GT500 and a wall on Salisbury Road in Cathays, Cardiff, just before 0300BST.

Mrs Long, who has four children aged five to 15, later died at the University Hospital of Wales.

Charges

Mr Razaq, wearing a blue t-shirt and black jacket, sobbed at Cardiff Magistrates Court and spoke only to confirm his address.

He is charged with death by dangerous driving and driving without a licence, MOT or insurance.

Mr Razaq, of Ely, Cardiff, was remanded in custody and will appear before Cardiff Crown Court on 14 August.

Floral tributes have been laid the spot where Mrs Long died.

Friends and family left messages to her and promised to care for her children.
