In Wrexham 13 roads have been shut, 10 in Denbighshire and 20 in Flintshire, organisers had feared the bad weather would ruin the day but many have carried on regardless.

More than 70 residents from Edward Street in Wrexham were forced to retreat into the community hall when the rain came down on Monday morning.

Tables had been set and the bunting erected but one of the organisers, Chris Smith, said the party would continue.

"We are a bit disappointed with the weather but we are still having fun, we're going to have some fun and games, line dancing and clog dancing.

"For us it's about the fun, enjoyment and the community spirit.

Special occasion

This is the seventh street party that the residents have organised - including one for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977.

For the oldest resident, 79-year-old Glyn Jones, they are great fun.

"We have street parties regularly and this is a special occasion - the Queen's Golden Jubilee."

The pensioner who has lived on the street since 1963 added: "The way people have worked so hard is wonderful, there is a real community spirit."

Youngsters enjoyed the party

Young and old celebrated the Jubilee and they were joined by three Iraqi-Kurd refugees who live on the road.

For the youngest resident - six-week-old Chloe Louise Wright - the occasion seemed uneventful.

The party was able to go ahead after local donations raised £145 and residents brought along their own food.

Eleven-year-old Greg Nicholas got dressed up in red, white and blue to mark Her Majesty's 50-year-reign.

The youngster said: "It's important to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and I wanted to look the part. I'll remember this for years to come."

His sister Stephanie added: "This doesn't happen every day so I think it's quite important."
