Hundreds of pounds worth of equipment has been stolen from the Ruthin centre which has been forced to close.

The equipment which was stolen in the raid include a television, video, play station, a camera and even food and toilet rolls.

Ann Smith of Denbighshire's Youth and Community Service said she is disgusted.

"The play station was well used by the young people who don't have one at home, the food that we had was so that we could make hot dogs and pizzas free of charge on Friday nights.

"Most of what has been taken was either given by local people or bought by money raised by the young people who come to the club."

The Drill Hall youth club in Borthyn opens on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights with up to 40 people aged between 11 and 19 using the facility.

There are five other voluntary organisations which use the building including members of the Brownies and Guides.

Workers discovered the building had been broken into when they opened up on Monday morning.

Forensic teams have checked the site for fingerprints and an extensive list of the items stolen is being drawn up.

Ms Smith said: "We don't know how much this means in money yet but whatever the cost it means such a lot to the young people who use this building and the equipment on a regular basis."

Council officials expect to re-open the centre within the next few days.
