In pictures: Fire strike's second day
The first major test of the strike was in the West Midlands, where six factory sheds caught fire
Firefighters across the country expressed their anger and blamed the government for the impasse
Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon visited army bases and applauded their work in providing emergency fire cover
TUC general secretary John Monks urged all the unions to support the firefighters' cause
A man died in a house fire in Kent (left), and a firefighter was the victim of an arson attack at home
