In pictures: Festival for war heroes
The Queen and Prime Minister Tony Blair are among those who attended the annual festival at London's Royal Albert Hall on Saturday night to remember Britain's servicemen and women.
The Queen, Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles were among the special guests
The event broadcast on BBC One and BBC Radio 2 was expected to attract an audience of eight million people
The new forces' sweetheart actress and singer Claire Sweeney sang When You Believe and Abide With Me
The Royal parties were welcomed by representatives of the event's organisers, the Royal British Legion
Military bands performed, veterans paraded and there were displays from army battalions
Security was tight for the event, which was also attended by Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie
