Thousands of pupils are due back at school after the festive break but the freezing conditions have led to schools across Scotland being closed on Tuesday.
NORTH EAST AND NORTHERN ISLES
All 173 schools in Aberdeenshire are closed because of weather conditions. In Aberdeen the list has been growing - with 37 closed or partially closed. Schools in Orkney and Shetland are due back on Wednesday. Moray schools are due back on Thursday, but the situation is now under review by the council.
SOUTH OF SCOTLAND
All schools in the Borders and in Dumfries and Galloway will remain closed. A statement on Dumfries and Galloway Council's website said: "Head teachers will carry out full risk assessments on Tuesday and information on when schools will re-open will be posted on the council website as soon as it is available." The Scottish Borders Council website said: "All schools in the Scottish Borders will remain closed on Tuesday 5 January. Where staff can travel to their schools, they will be expected to attend and prepare for the start of the new term."
HIGHLANDS AND ISLANDS
Western Isles Council is keeping most of its schools closed on Tuesday due to the weather. All schools on Lewis and Harris will remain closed. Highland Council schools go back next week.
GLASGOW AND THE WEST
Glasgow City Council has shut 14 schools are closed in Glasgow, four of which are currently morning closures. Pupils have been told to stay at home but staff have been asked to report as normal to school or if they cannot get there they have to report to a school closer to their home. All schools in North Lanarkshire were open on Tuesday. South Lanarkshire has closed 12 primary schools. North and East Ayrshire - schools do not open until Wednesday. South Ayrshire - schools do not open until Thursday. Argyll and Bute Council schools do not go back until Wednesday.
EDINBURGH AND THE EAST
Edinburgh schools do not open until Wednesday. West Lothian schools are not due to open until Monday. Midlothian Council schools are not due back until Wednesday. East Lothian Council schools are not due back until Wednesday. Fife Council has closed 14 schools out of 186 schools and nurseries in the area. Heating, water and health and safety problems have caused the closures.
TAYSIDE AND CENTRAL
In Perth and Kinross, Goodlyburn Primary School and Breadalbane Community Campus are closed to all pupils. Invergowrie Primary School will be closed for P1, P2 and P3 pupils on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the school remains open for those in the nursery, P4, P5, P6 and P7. Arngask Primary School is partially closed with no classes for nursery or P1. Dundee schools are due to open on Wednesday. All schools in Stirling will open, apart from Fallin primary, where a lack of water has forced closure. Clackmannanshire schools are still on holiday.
