TB alert at nursery school
Tuberculosis
The tuberculosis screening is a precautionary measure
Children at a nursery in Glasgow have been offered screening for tuberculosis after a worker caught the infection.

Greater Glasgow NHS Board said it was taking the "precautionary" measure after the case was confirmed.

The board have declined to name the nursery because of patient confidentiality.

But it said 95 children who were on the roll and attending the nursery from August to the end of December 2002, would be screened for the infection.

Close contacts

The staff member is expected to make a full recovery.

The person was removed from contact with children as soon as the case of tuberculosis was suspected, officials said.

Close contacts, and those people thought to be most at risk of catching the infection, have already been screened.

All tests so far have proved negative.

A similar screening exercise undertaken last year in a Glasgow nursery school did not reveal any cases.

There are around 200 TB cases each year in the Greater Glasgow area and more than 400 each year across Scotland.

In November health chiefs denied covering up the deaths of two men who were regulars at a pub in Glasgow.
