Expenses in the last financial year for Labour member Margaret Jamieson reached nearly £80,000.

The amount made the Kilmarnock and Loudon member Holyrood's most expensive MSP.

Her bill was more than three times as much as the cheapest MSP, Conservative member John Young who claimed less than £25,000.

In total, MSPs ran up a bill of more than £7m in allowances in the last financial year.

The figure was revealed in the latest annual report of the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body.

Most of the money was spent on staff and office costs, as well as travel, accommodation and stationary.

While Ms Jamieson's office equipment expenses reached £16,500, the majority of MSPs spent just a few thousand pounds on office items.

A Labour spokesman said Margaret Jamieson had an "over zealous" staff member who unnecessarily ordered thousands of pre-paid envelopes.

He said the envelopes have now been returned and refunded.

The MSP with the highest travel expenses was Shetland MSP Tavish Scott who claimed more than £26,000.
