Campaigners who are refusing to let their elderly relatives be moved from a care home have promised to keep up their fight against its closure.

The promise follows a meeting with the Church of Scotland, which owns Leslie House in Glenrothes - one of five facilities set to be shut.

Representatives from the Kirk's Board of Social Responsibility met a number of the relatives on Saturday.

The church has stressed that it cannot afford to keep the home open.

However, relatives have claimed that some of the residents will die if they are forced to move.

The Fife home is schedule to close in three weeks - and the church has said it has no plans to change its mind.

The Kirk has said it cannot afford to continue with its level of expenditure at Leslie House, which is running at a deficit of £160,000 a year.

It has also warned that legal action to move the residents is a potential last resort.

However, the families involved have also been considering legal action over the decision.

Scheduled to close

Relatives of 17 residents are withholding their consent for them to be moved out of the home.

Ross Vettraino, a spokesman for the families, believes his mother will die if she cannot stay with the other residents and staff.

The other homes scheduled to close are Dunselma at Fenwick, Mayburn House at Loanhead, Midlothian and Queen Mary House in Glasgow.

Occupants will be moved to a mixture of private and public sector accommodation.
