Double tragedy on road
Police in car
Police dealt with two fatalities in the same area
Police have launched investigations into the death of two pedestrians on a trunk road in two days.

John Beaton, 27, and 16-year-old Paul Kearney, died in separate incidents on the A8 at Coatbridge on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Mr Beaton, of Coltswood Court, in Coatbridge, died after a collision with a car.

The accident happened just after 2000 BST on Saturday and a police spokeswoman said the driver of the car was not injured.

On Friday night, Paul Kearney, of Craigend Drive, in Coatbridge, died after an accident on the same road.

The teenager was in collision with a car as he crossed the westbound carriageway.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he later died. The driver of the car was not injured.

Strathclyde Police said reports on the incidents will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
