Resorts are anticipating a flurry of activity
Scotland's ski resorts have been looking forward to a bumper spell, with some areas reporting the best conditions in 35 years.

This boost for trade came as the north struggled to get back to normal after widespread disruption caused by snow.

Ski and snowboard hire shops have reported an upturn in business, with many enthusiasts rushing to take advantage of the improved conditions.

However, police have warned that the weather could remain unpredictable and that motorists should take care, especially on mountain roads.

Skiers are expected to flock north
Four days of severe weather brought misery to people across Scotland earlier this week.

Thousands were stranded in their homes - many without electricity for long periods.

Several main roads and rail lines were blocked by snow, with hundreds of children receiving an unexpected school holiday.

Glenshee was completely cut off for a time, but the weather then appeared to bring good fortune.

According to marketing director Shona Ballantine, it has been inundated with enquiries from skiers keen to take advantage of the snow.

She said: "We've certainly got better snow cover than we did last year.

"It is some of the best snow conditions we've had for the past 35 years.

"So nobody who is coming up is going to be disappointed. It really is tremendous skiing."
