On The Westminster Hour in February 2004, we look at the relationship between church and state: the Scottish politicians who are 'sons of the manse' and the powerful impact they have.
'Sons of the manse' is a description almost unknown in the political culture of the rest of Britain. It identifies the sons or daughters of Presbyterian ministers from the Church of Scotland, often imbued with a deep-rooted commitment to public service.
