Home Secretary Theresa May was pressed by BBC Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman over when she learned about her party's child benefit policy.

The Conservatives have faced criticism over plans to cut higher rate taxpayers' child benefit and the BBC understands that the government plans to introduce a tax break for married couples in this parliament.
