Maples: 'Officials agreed my claim'

The Conservative MP John Maples has told Newsnight that House of Commons officials agreed that he could carry on claiming a second home allowance, after he'd sold his main home and was living temporarily in a London club.

Mr Maples' expense claims were revealed by the Daily Telegraph. He told the BBC that he didn't see why he should repay the money, but would do so if asked by the panel set up to scrutinise claims.
