Fires of the Amazon
Fires of the Amazon
After the 1992 Environment Summit in Rio, there was finally hope that the Amazon forests could survive Brazilian development.

But ten years on, news is not good.

The rate of deforestation is 40% higher and clearance programmes continue.

Adrian Cowell has spent 20 years studying the rainforest. He journeys back to find out if the "progress" that is consuming one of the world's greatest natural resources can be halted.

Reporter/Producer: Adrian Cowell
Deputy Editor: David Belton
Editor: Karen O'Connor

Correspondent: Fires of the Amazon will be broadcast on BBC Two on Sunday 1 September at 1915 BST.
