The Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott, admitted that more needed to be done to prepare for flooding in the future and said the government was determined to upgrade flood prevention measures. Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister, Seamus Mallon, discussed the fragility of the peace process and Conservative front-bencher Andrew Lansley said he sympathised with fuel protesters but could not condone them breaking the law.
