Best charged with drink-driving
George Best
The former Manchester United player was stopped by police
Former footballer George Best has been charged with drink-driving.

Police say they stopped the former Manchester United player in Merton, south-west London, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Mr Best, 57, from West Ewell, Surrey, was arrested and taken to Wimbledon police station.

He is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Monday.

In July 2002 Mr Best promised to give up alcohol after a liver transplant.

Last November it was claimed the star threw bricks through the window of his wife's car after he suspected her of having an affair.

Alex Best is currently in the Australian Outback, taking part in the reality show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

On Boxing Day last year, the former Northern Ireland international spent 10 hours under arrest in connection with an alleged assault.

He was arrested in Reigate, the town where he used to share a house with his estranged wife.

At the time police refused to confirm his identity, or the victim of the alleged assault, but said he was released without charge and that no accusations were being pursued "by any party".
