Dog found 'hanged' from tree
A black labrador
A black labrador has died after apparently being hanged from a tree in County Armagh.

The dog was found in a stream beneath the tree on the Garvaghy Road, Portadown.

It had a broken rope around its neck.

It is thought the animal strangled itself while trying to break free.

Stephen Philpott of the USPCA said deterrents were not strong enough to stop people treating animals cruelly.

"The punishments handed out to people that are caught for these crimes, the punishments does not actually fit the crime," he said.

"There will be no deterrent until people understand that crimes against defenceless animals are as serious as any other crimes."
