Heather Burnside, and seven-year-old Catherine, were killed when their car was involved in a collision near Newtownards on Sunday.

Their funerals took place at First Comber Presbyterian Church.

The service was being conducted by the congregation's minister Reverend Wilson Gordon and children from Catherine's school, Andrew's Memorial Primary, in Comber, took part.

Appeal

Mrs Burnside's other two children, and another man, were injured in the crash which happened on the Comber Road at its junction with Lansdowne Road on Sunday.

Mrs Burnside was a police officer who played a key role in a new auto crime unit in west Belfast.

The Chief Constable Hugh Orde was among several officers at the service.

Her death has been described as a devastating blow to those who worked alongside her.

The police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them.
