Belfast enjoys Proms last night
A giant stage has been built at Belfast City Hall
Belfast has enjoyed a feast of classical music as hosts of the BBC's Proms in the Park.
A giant stage was built in the grounds of Belfast City Hall for the three-hour music festival on Saturday. The event is held in different cities each year, with Gateshead and London joining Belfast as hosts. Ulster Orchestra conductor Thierry Fischer led classics by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Rossini.
Vocal group Anuna, who celebrate their 15th anniversary, took to the stage in the second half of the concert to perform songs from Northern Ireland and further afield. Northern Ireland composers also featured, including Joan Trimble, Howard Ferguson and Hamilton Harty. 'Local talent' The Ulster Orchestra closed the night with the Radetsky March following a crowd sing-along to Parry's hymn Jerusalem and You'll Never Walk Alone. Declan McGovern, BBC Northern Ireland's Editor of Music, said it was a night when the people of Belfast celebrated local talent. "We're delighted to be part of the Last Night of the Proms - the world's premiere classical music festival. "Belfast City Council has joined together with us for this unique collaboration in bringing classical music to local audiences on a scale never seen before in the city centre."
