Train hits herd of cows

There are no reports of any injuries after a train derailed in County Armagh.

It is understood the train hit a herd of cows two miles outside Lurgan.

The 1520 service from Belfast to Portadown had 35 passengers onboard.

They were taken to Lurgan station by bus and are continuing their journey.

Passengers 'shaken'

Kiaran Rogan, a spokesman for the railway company said Translink would launch "a full investigation" into the incident.

"They were badly shaken, but fortunately the passengers and two staff on board suffered no injuries of any sort," he added.

"Obviously cattle on the line can lead to serious consequences. There have been fatalities in similar cases in the past.

"Luckily in this case, the driver saw the cattle on the track and hit the brakes."

Mr Rogan added that Translink hoped to have the line re-opened by 1900 BST.
