...or lurid scenes of the American vernacular.

"Although the pictures were made in the United States" Manos says...

..."they do not pretend to constitute a general or definitive statement about the country or its people."

He continues, "they are instead specific moments which exist for their own sake...

...which charm, mystify and astonish, while asking questions without really giving answers."
