People across Israel have held ceremonies in remembrance of some six million Jews who perished in the Nazi Holocaust.
The wail of sirens brought the whole country to a halt for a two-minute silence to honour the victims.
Names of the victims were recited and flowers were laid at a ceremony at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem.
The Holocaust Remembrance Day was marked in communities all over Israel with prayers and performances.
In Poland, some 7,000 young Jews and Holocaust survivors took part in the March of the Living at the former Nazi death camp in Auschwitz in Poland.
Many participants prayed at Auschwitz, vowing to never again let the Jewish people perish in a Holocaust.
