Before they can go to work on the beach at Skegness, donkeys must pass their equivalent of the MOT - including health checks by a vet.

All beach donkeys are branded on their hooves so people can make complaints if necessary.

Microchips must be inserted under the donkeys' skin, or licences will not be issued.

A final check to ensure the animal has no sores, especially in the area where the saddle is placed.

And the donkeys are free to work - once the weather improves, of course.
