The Queen attended a special Proms concert of classical music to mark the 50th anniversary of her reign

As she arrived at the Royal Albert Hall she was presented with a posy from six-year-old Esme Goudie, of north London

"Very patriotic", said the Queen admiring the red, white and blue flowers. Esme said the Queen was "very nice"

The Proms are an annual summer event of about 70 concerts, aimed at bringing classical music to a mass audience

This concert showcased a range of British and Commonwealth music, including pieces written in 1953 for the Coronation

In the interval, the Queen met some of the Prommers who had greeted her with a Latin yell wishing her long life

She also met some of the stewards. Prince Philip told one of them they looked like they came from Butlins

The Proms is 109 years old but, according to Proms director Nicholas Kenyon, still "hugely popular"

The Royal couple certainly seemed to enjoy their concert, which ended with Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra
