English inventor, astronomer and chemist Sir John Frederick William Herschel (son of the astronomer William Herschel who discovered Uranus) with wild white hair and a black hat circa 1867.
His pioneering work in photography resulted in many ground-breaking developments including the formulation of a fixative for use with silver-based photographs.
