Little Britain hoping for RTS win

Little Britain stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams will be competing for prizes at the Royal Television Society's programme awards on Tuesday.

The pair have been nominated for best comedy performance, alongside Green Wing actress Tamsin Greig and Julia Davis from BBC Three's Nighty Night.

Lucas and Walliams were nominated for a Bafta TV award for best comedy performance earlier this week.

Other RTS nominees include EastEnders, which is shortlisted for best soap.

The show will compete against Coronation Street and Emmerdale for the prize.

TV presenters Ant and Dec are nominated in two categories for Saturday Night Takeaway. The show is shortlisted for both best entertainment programme and best entertainment performance.

Channel 4 hopefuls

In both categories they will compete against illusionist Derren Brown, who has been nominated for best entertainment programme for Tricks of the Mind, and best entertainment performance for Seance.

Strictly Come Dancing has also been nominated in the best entertainment programme category.

Other multiple nominees include the Channel 4 comedy Green Wing, which is shortlisted for three awards including best situation comedy, and the drama Shameless, which has nominations for best drama series and best drama writer. In the best presenter category, This Morning's Fern Britton and Philip Schofield are nominated alongside Bill Oddie, for his Britain Goes Wild programme, and Michael Palin for Himalaya.

Paul O'Grady is also among the nominees, competing against A Place In Spain for the best daytime programme award.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by TV presenter Kate Thornton, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
