Pop Idol hopeful Roxanne Cooper has become the latest contestant to be voted out of the show by the public.
The 16-year-old's rendition of Beatles classic Let It Be was not good enough to win her one of the last five places inthe competition.
Sam Nixon, 17, has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite to become the second Pop Idol.
Judge Simon Cowell continued to back larger-sized Michelle McManus, saying he was looking for something different.
The controversial pop judge attacked what he called the music industry's obsession with size.
US vote
Earlier in the week, the winner of the first series of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, had tipped Roxanne, from Hull, to win Pop Idol.
"Roxanne has a great chance of winning," she said. "She has a great voice, is beautiful and she also has an amazing presence."
Cowell said this week he believed many of the performers in this year's competition had been "average", and that he would not sign them if it were not for the ITV1 show.
He added he would not have signed last year's winner Will Young and runner-up Gareth Gates were it not for Pop Idol.
