Comedy duo join new Rise line-up
Rise and fall: Edith Bowman (right) is the only survivor
Comedy duo Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are joining the revamped Channel 4 breakfast show
Rise.
The pair will have their own half-hour section of the programme which relaunches on Monday. Former 11 O'clock Show host Iain Lee and original presenter Edith Bowman will present the show between 07:00 GMT and 08:30 GMT, with Mel and Sue following them.
Mel and Sue previously hosted the Channel 4 midday show Light Lunch. Their Rise slot is expected to be a similar style of show, filmed in front of a studio audience and featuring a special guest. Bowman is the only face left from the original line-up, which included Mark Durden-Smith and Kirsty Gallacher. Channel 4 has revamped the show after its previous incarnation drew disappointing viewing figures. A few months after the launch on 29 April audiences for Rise were hovering at around 200,000 - no more than watched its predecessor, The Big Breakfast, which was axed because of poor ratings. The new show has moved from its old studios in Middlesex to a new home above Whiteley's shopping centre in Bayswater, west London. Show bosses are said to be hoping the more central location will help to attract celebrity guests.
