Glen Campbell was arrested at his home in Arizona

The 67-year-old denied charges he kneed a police officer in the thigh after his arrest in Phoenix, Arizona last month.

He also pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. His next court appearance is scheduled for 15 January.

Campbell faces up to two years in jail on the aggravated assault charge.

Apology

The singer was arrested in his home town of Phoenix on 24 November after allegedly crashing his car and then driving off.

Police said the incident began at about 1700 local time (0000 GMT) when Campbell's silver BMW car slammed into a white Toyota at a Phoenix intersection and carried on.

Campbell has blamed his arrest on accidentally drinking alcohol while on prescribed medication for anxiety.

"I'm taking Lexapro and you can't have alcohol with it, and I did. I forgot," the star told the East Valley Tribune newspaper.

He also issued a public apology.

"Even at my age I learned a valuable lesson," he said, apologising to his wife, family, friends and fans.

Campbell is free on bail and has been given permission to travel but must continue to attend alcohol and drug screenings.

Campbell's hit songs include Rhinestone Cowboy and By the Time I Get to Phoenix.
