Britney quits restaurant trade
Britney Spears
Spears says she has not earned a cent from the venture
Britney Spears has pulled out of her critically-panned New York restaurant venture, claiming it has been "mismanaged".

The singer, who will be 21 on Monday, opened the Nyla restaurant at a hotel in midtown Manhattan five months ago.

In a statement she said she had "terminated her relationship" with it because of mismanagement and "management's failure to keep her fully apprised (informed)".

The restaurant at the Dylan Hotel - named partly after New York and partly after Spears' home state of Louisiana - served Southern-inspired cuisine.

I wish the restaurant and its current ownership continued success

It has met with poor reviews and slow business, and the menu was recently changed to American food with an Italian flavour.

In her statement Spears said: "I wish the restaurant and its current ownership continued success."

She said she had no involvement in Nyla's day-to-day affairs, and had not earned money or benefits from it.

Spears' efforts to go into the restaurant business appeared to have been doomed from the start.

A string of celebrities, including her chart rival Jennifer Lopez, stayed away from the launch party.

She recently took a six-month sabbatical
Shortly after it opened, three children were reportedly taken ill with food poisoning.

The original manager left in September amid claims it was more than $100,000 over budget, and a chef quit after four weeks because of financial fears.

Last month a 24-year-old man needed hospital treatment after being stabbed on the doorstep of the restaurant.

Spears, who arrived on the music scene in 1999 with the single Baby One More Time, recently announced she was taking a six-month sabbatical following a punishing work schedule.

She spent some time in Italy with her friend, fashion designer Donatella Versace, and announced she would return to the recording studio on her return.

In March she broke up with boyfriend Justin Timberlake, leader of the boy band N'Sync, and later admitted to being heartbroken.

To add to her woes, her debut film role in the teen film Crossroads received a poor response from the critics.
