Ethan Hawke may be better known for his acting than his writing, but he is hoping to change that with his second novel, Ash Wednesday.

The book tells the story of a young couple who go on a journey across America and have to confront their past, present and future along the way.

"What carries it through is the strength of Hawke's characterisation and the crisp, up-front dialogue," says the BBC's Clare Gabriel.

I've always thought Ethan Hawke was a very talented actor, I remember watching him in The Dead Poets society when I was younger. I bought his first book simply because I had money in my pocket and a desire to do so. I also wanted to see if it was any good! I was more than impressed, it's very down to earth, doesn't try and be too clever and the characters, events and morals are very likeable. He has a definite talent for writing in my opinion.
