Snoop Dogg recently had his first number one single in the US
Rap star Snoop Dogg is suing a woman and her lawyers over claims they tried to blackmail him to keep quiet about an alleged assault against her.

The defendant, listed as "Jane Doe", and her unnamed lawyers are alleged to have demanded $5m (£3.7m) from the rap star, also known as Calvin Broadus.

The woman threatened to sell details of an alleged assault to the press.

The case, filed in Los Angeles on 10 December, claims Snoop Dogg was not involved in the alleged assault.

No further details of the assault, said to have taken place at a concert in 2003, were given.

The singer is suing for punitive damages and in a bid to stop future threats.
