Nolte will be making his animation debut
Nick Nolte has joined the cast of stars lending their voices to Dreamworks' next animation film Over the Hedge, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Nolte, 64, will provide the voice to Vincent the bear, in his first foray into the animation genre.

Bruce Willis, William Shatner, Avril Lavigne and West Wing star Allison Janney have also been cast in the film.

The movie will tell the story of a cheeky raccoon and his turtle pal, based on a popular cartoon strip.

The characters will be fighting to save their woodland home from encroaching urban development and will experience their first contact with humans.

Willis will play RJ the racoon, while Gary Shandling will voice Verne the turtle.

Singer Lavigne will make her debut in animated film, voicing possum Heather.

The cartoon strip, which is syndicated across US newspapers, is written by Michael Fry and T Lewis.

The film will be directed Tim Johnson, who co-directed Antz, and Karey Kirkpatrick, who wrote the screenplay to the film version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with the late Douglas Adams.
