Scooby-Doo descends on UK
Scooby-Doo remains a cult favourite
The eagerly-anticipated live action version of Scooby-Doo has gone on general release in the UK on Friday after major success in the US.
Its triumphant opening weekend in North America saw it take $56.7m (£38.4m) and it is set to top the charts in the UK. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr, the film concentrates on the sly humour of the original cartoon.
The previews bode well for its chances of toppling Minority Report - which took £3.9m from its opening weekend - from the summit of the UK box office. It is also up against Spider-Man in second place, which took £1.4m in its fourth week of release. Tell us about your Scooby Doo memories Warner Bros have already announced that they will make a sequel, probably featuring all of the main cast members. The film has had mixed reviews, but the computer-animated Scooby and youthful cast of starlets have generally pleased fans. Quirky features Rowan Atkinson features as the evil Mondavarious who is behind mysterious goings-on at the Spooky Island theme park. Teen movie favourite Matthew Lillard plays Shaggy and Linda Cardellini as the bespectacled, studious Velma. The film retains much of the original cartoon's quirky features such as "Scooby snacks". Scooby-Doo is also up against video game conversion Resident Evil and and Devdas, said to be the most expensive Bollywood movie ever. And its battle for the younger market will intensify when the sequel to Stuart Little opens next week. Tell us about your memories of the classic cartoon series.
