Lewis Hamilton's defeat in the Brazilian Grand Prix drew Sunday's largest TV audience, with a peak of 10.4 million watching.
His Formula One world title bid drew 41% of the viewing public, an average of 7.3 million viewers, to ITV1.
Hamilton began as favourite but car problems saw him lose the championship to Kimi Raikkonen.
At its peak, 49.8% of UK TV viewers were watching Hamilton battle for success at the Interlagos track.
On Saturday, England's defeat to South Africa in the Rugby World Cup attracted a peak of 15.8 million viewers.
According to overnight figures, an average of 12.8m people tuned into ITV1 to watch the match at the Stade de France in Paris.
