Roman Polanski and the Coen brothers are among 35 top movie-makers directing short films to celebrate the Cannes Film Festival's 60th anniversary.
The three-minute films, on the theme of going to the cinema, will be shown together at the festival in May.
Festival director Gilles Jacob said viewers should expect surprises, adding that David Cronenberg had set his film entirely in a bathroom.
Other participants include Ken Loach, Lars von Trier and Wim Wenders.
Babel director Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu will also contribute a three-minute film, as will former Cannes Palme d'Or winners Jane Campion, Gus Van Sant and Nanni Moretti.
"None of the directors has learned anything about the other shorts, not even the plots of their colleagues' movies," Jacob said.
