Pacino to take to stage as Herod
Al Pacino
Pacino is considered by many to be one of the greatest film actors
Hollywood actor Al Pacino will star as King Herod in a Los Angeles stage production of Oscar Wilde's Salome.

The film star will play the King who falls for his wife's daughter Salome, performed by Jessica Chastain, at the Wadsworth theatre from 14 April.

Pacino first appeared in the role on Broadway in 1992 and again in 2003.

Kevin Anderson, who was nominated for a Tony award in 1999 for Biff in Arthur Miller's Death of A Salesman, will star as John the Baptist, who is beheaded.

Tickets for the 26 performances of Salome will go on sale on 26 March.

The play will be directed by Estelle Parsons, who was also behind the 2003 Broadway version, which starred David Strathairn and Marisa Tomei alongside Pacino.

Pacino won a best actor Oscar in 1992 for Scent of a Woman.

His other Broadway credits include Hughie, Richard III and his debut in Does A Tiger Wear A Necktie?
