Starbucks' film promotion follows music deals and CD sales
Coffee shop chain Starbucks has signed its first film promotion deal, for forthcoming movie Akeelah and the Bee.

The chain's branches will offer previews, run promotions and sell the soundtrack and DVD of the film.

The drama about a girl from a poor part of Los Angeles with a talent for words stars Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett. It is released in April.

Starbucks has previously negotiated exclusive deals with Alanis Morissette and Bob Dylan to release new albums.

Over 5,000 Starbucks outlets in the US already sell music CDs.

"Just as we have demonstrated with music, we believe that Starbucks can ultimately change the rules of the game for film marketing and distribution," Starbucks chairman Howard Schultz said.
