Airport strike action called off
A planned strike which would have hit pre-Christmas travellers at Birmingham International Airport has been averted.

A spokesman for the Amicus union, whose members had voted to strike over plans to alter pensions, said there had been talks with management lasting 11 hours.

He said the 24-hour strike plan on 17 December had been withdrawn and there would be a new ballot with leaders recommending acceptance of a new deal.

An airport spokesman said the airport would now be operating normally.

Last week 76% of ground and security staff and 100% of firefighters voted to take industrial action in a ballot.
