Smear test phone scheme launches
Thousands of women are to be contacted at home and advised to have cervical smear tests.

About 16,000 women aged between 25 and 64 in the Birmingham area have missed their three-yearly cervical screening.

The Heart of Birmingham Teaching Primary Care Trust has set up a call centre to let patients know when they are overdue for a test.

Women can then make an appointment with their own doctor or go to one of five special clinics set up across the city.
