Police are targeting pubs and bars in Sunderland as part of a campaign to cut down on underage drinking and alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour.
The clampdown is part of Northumbria Police's summer campaign, called The Party's Over.
A fire safety officer will accompany police to make sure that licensees are complying with fire safety regulations.
For the week ending 12 June, police say they have arrested 106 people as part of the campaign.
Chief Insp Jo Miskimmin, of Sunderland Area Command, said: "We have had a lot of very positive feedback from pub staff and the public who are very pleased to see a uniformed police presence.
"We don't announce in advance where we are going but simply turn up. That way we get an accurate picture of how premises are being run and how customers are behaving.
