Extra public transport is being laid on for thousands of runners and spectators attending the Great North Run.
About 50,000 people are expected to take part in the half-marathon from Newcastle to South Shields on Sunday.
Metro operator Nexus is providing extra train services between the city centre and South Shields throughout the day to cope with the passenger increase.
Shuttle buses will also connect the finish with the Shields ferry landing, nearby Metro stations and Newcastle.
Both Shields ferries, Spirit of the Tyne and Pride of the Tyne, will be operating in tandem for the event.
